Sunday Stamps: Trees

 Good day and welcome to my blog.

This week's theme for Sunday Stamps is trees.  I have some older stamps to share:

Some older stamps from Ukraine, shared some time ago, and here again.  And the war in Ukraine continues on.  When I was in Postcrossing I received a number of cards from Ukraine, and I hope my correspondents are okay.

The trees here are a horse chestnut on the left, and some sort of lime tree on the right, or so my readers told me, the last time I shared this stamp.

Sunday Stamps: Ukraine

 It is a sunny day in the American Midwest.  Some buds have burst on the trees, the daffodils are about to bloom, and the grass is greener.  It's Sunday and time for Sunday stamps.

Our hearts and minds are on Ukraine.  Here are some stamps sent to me during my Postcrossing days:

An interesting combination.  An airship over a country estate.  And a painting of a country scene with a beautiful sky.

Sunday Stamps: Dark. Ukraine

 It is Sunday Feb. 27 2022, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine has been going on for a few days.  The theme for Sunday Stamps this week is "dark", and these are dark days indeed.  We are all thinking of Ukraine.

So I decided to share a stamp I have shared before:

Sent to me by a postcrosser who included the surrounding edges, so that you can see the Ukrainian flag moving in the wind.  Thinking of the people of Ukraine.

Sunday Stamps: Cats big and small

 Good afternoon, here in the American Midwest.  I am joining Sunday Stamps hosted by SeeitonaPostcard, a bit late.

The theme is Cats, big or small.  I have one from an older stamp from the Ukraine:

These are two stamps from a larger sheet.  That is a thatched roof of a cottage behind the cat and birds.  The cat doesn't seem to be pursuing the birds that closely - or it is distracted by looking at us.

Sunday Stamps "U"

Good day!

We are up to the letter "U".

A stamp from Ukraine, showing the national flag.  And note the sender has included the surrounding material from the stamp sheet, so that you get a real sense of the flag waving in the breeze.

I don't have any astrology stamps, nor New Year's stamps.  I hope a scan of stamps that recently came into my mailbox will do.

Two stamps from the Ukraine with themes I like: A rocket about to be launched on the left, and some delicious looking bread on the right.

This Postcrosser has not been affected by the war in Ukraine, but hopes that the war will be over soon.  Reading this made me sad; here in the USA we are so removed from war.

Sunday Stamps # 157

It's a cold day in the American Midwest.
I have been out and about, shopping, ferrying the children here and there, and more shopping.  I am tired.  But I need to put up my Sunday Stamps post.

Our theme this week: Flowers.

A nice stamp from the Ukraine, showing lilacs.  Now I am yearning for Spring! Alas, it is still some time away.

Sunday Stamps # 131

Our theme this week is a bit easier than last week!
This week: our theme is trees.

I just received the following stamps on a card from the Ukraine.  There must be a series of leaf stamps, I'm thinking.

 
On the left: I believe is a horse chestnut, and on the right an ash?  I must admit my botany is nearly non-existent.  Feel free to correct me.

Sunday Stamps #126

My goodness I am exhausted tonight!!

The family and I are back from a long 11 day trip out to the western USA: Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and points in-between, and lots of driving, and several troubles with air travel. But, we are home now and it is time for Sunday Stamps.

Our theme this week is:
Churches, castles, and fortifications.

The following stamp came to me on a Postcrossing postcard from the Ukraine.

 

I must say, these don't look like the kinds of fortifications one would find in Ukraine, but in the Middle East.  I am happy to be wrong however, if you know anything about this stamp or this place.

 

As I said, I am tired and can't really think of a theme for next week.  Let's have the theme be open next week, and I will ask for any suggestions you may have for future themes for Sunday Stamps.

Sunday stamps # 120

It's time for Sunday Stamps, and the theme is:

Anything you wish.

I had several things in mind, but then a Postcrossing card arrived in my mailbox. It is from the Ukraine and came in an envelope decorated with all sorts of interesting stamps.

From the left: A peasant couple, perhaps with  the goose that lays golden eggs; a castle or fortress; a scene of a couple jumping a fire, which is not a stamp at all, but is attached to the stamp of the windmill beside it.  Below: leaves and nut of tree that sure looks familar but I can't place the name.

A busy Spring weekend, with the end of the semester upon me!  Enjoy the free theme this week.

Theme next week: Stamps from China, or Taiwan.  I've recently received interesting stamps from both places.

This week:  I am sharing a lovely patriotic flag stamp ( and surrounding image) from Ukraine.  And the Ukraine has released some great flag stamps.

I always appreciate it when Postcrossers include this extra material - it really adds something to the postcard.

Sunday Stamps #86

It's a holiday weekend here in the USA (Labor Day) and I will be away on a 3 day family outing. So I am preparing this week's Sunday Stamps ahead of time, and I hope to visit all of your blogs by late Monday or Tuesday.

The theme this week (suggested by one of you) is art, music, or dance.

OK, the top stamp is for a science theme, I agree, but look at the bottom stamp.  It is of a landscape painting from 1848, on a stamp from the Ukraine.  I am a little short on USA art reproduction stamps at the moment.  I do hope someone has a dance stamp - that would be cool.

Sunday Stamps # 82

Sunday Stamps # 82: In which our theme is: stamps that leave you wondering: what is this stamp trying to show? What does it commemorate? Or, who is this person on this stamp anyway?  This theme was actually suggested by one of you when I asked, sometime back, for some help with themes.

In my first stamp I am hampered by a lack of understanding of Cyrillic letters.

This Ukraine stamp is honoring a rocket scientist.  One of my readers from Eastern Europe will laugh and say, "of course, that is _________!"  If you can, please help me out by leaving a comment.

This next stamp is from Lithuania.  Is it a marble, a bead?  A landscape reflection seen in a spherical mirror?  I am not sure, but it is interesting.

Sunday Stamps #58

In which today's theme is cats and dogs, and other pets on stamps.

Here a playful cat from the Ukraine is not really chasing those birds.  A delightful se-tenant set from a recent Postcrossing postcard.  I am not sure if the background is supposed to be grass, or a thatched roof?  Also note the birds are black and white like the cat.
