Sunday Stamps #25

In which the theme is summer, especially butterflies. Oh you must have butterfly stamps, somewhere!

These are from Turkey, and I am glad to have 4 different designs. Note each has the species name, and a design in the background.   I can't decide which I like best.

Next week: Sunday Stamps is taking a one-week break, as I am on vacation, and I do want to get away from my computer.  This meme will return July 10.  As July seems to be the month for national holidays, let's share some patriotic stamps on the 10th.

PFF: June 24

This beach is in New Zealand but boy, how I would love to be there today!  A postcard from a Kiwi Postcrosser.

Happy Summer!  I am joining Beth at Postcard Friendship Friday.

Sunday Stamps #24

Today's theme is anything you wish, or perhaps more se-tenant stamps that you would like to share.

Part of a larger sheet that includes many animals and insects. I like the illustrations in this set.  I can tell from the denomination that this is from my short-lived period of serious stamp collecting.  And USA first class postage rates have doubled exactly since that time.

Share some stamps, and visit other participants!

Theme next week: Summer is here, so share stamps of summer, especially butterflies - one of my favorite subjects.

Postcard Friendship Friday June 17

My last chrome postcard of this set, from a thrift store.
From the back:
Aerial view citrus tower, located on US Highway 27 at Clermont, Florida.  Elevator to the observation deck, 542 feet above sea level, where visitors may view numerous beautiful lakes and hills and thousands of acres of citrus groves."

Also this information: "New color card technique, R.A. Lasater, Apopka, Fla."

Has this Florida landmark disappeared like the Tiki Gardens at Indian Rocks Beach?
No!  It is still there, but I think the landscape has changed:

"The Citrus Tower stands unrivaled as a majestic and monumental tribute to Central Florida’s famed citrus industry and its lush subtropical groves. With the area’s changing economic climate, the Tower serves as a beacon guiding a burgeoning new business and population base to the scenic South Lake County region."

Sunday Stamps #23

In which I run into trouble with my scanner and can't show what I wished to.
The theme this week is  a set of stamps that really should be pictured together, as the design is continued from one stamp to the next.  Any topic.

Some LOVE-ly stamps from the US Postal Service.  It's their scan too.  But you can see how the design flows from one stamp into the next.
Help me out people and show some great stamp sets!

Theme next week:  Anything you wish.  More se-tenant stamps, anyone?

Postcard Friendship Friday - June 10

Continuing our chrome postcard journey through Florida:

No location given, this unused card just says "Delightful tropical Florida living" on the back.  Along with the code "F.K. 80 - general Florida scene in natural color".  Gosh good to know this is natural color.  And take notice of that swell car - new at the time I think but now it would have antique plate on it.  Love the blue and the palm trees.

I am joining Beth at the Best Hearts are Crunchy for Postcard Friendship Friday.

Note: remember Sunday Stamps this week.  The theme will be a set of stamps that really should be pictured together, as the design is continued from one stamp to the next.  Any topic.

Sunday Stamps #22

Hello and welcome to the theme of anything you wish. Here is one kind of stamp I like:

Minerals!  Ok it may not by your favorite subject but it is for me.  From upper left, and moving clockwise: gyps, or gypsum, amethyst, malachit or malachite, and halite or salt.  Gypsum by the way is mined and ground up and used in drywall (sheet rock in some places). Who knew?

This is an older set (Clue: the DDR) with different denominations on each.  In fact this gives me an idea.  The theme next week will be a set of stamps that really should be pictured together, as the design is continued from one stamp to the next.  Any topic. These are se-tenant stamps, correct?  Remember I amass stamps, I don't seriously collect them.

Postcard Friendship Friday June 3

In which I continue my chrome postcard journey on the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Say Ethel, remember this place? You were wearing your flowered muu muu and we met that cute young thing, what was her name?  After a few zombie drinks it's a wonder I remember anything.

From the back; "Visitors revel in the beautiful and romantic atmosphere of TIKI GARDENS - "Oro", two-faced Wind God in the foreground, Tahiti Hut in background, this exotic attraction is located on Indian Rocks Beach, between Clearwater and St. Petersburg, Florida."

Sadly this exotic place is no more.  It was torn down in 1990, initially for a hotel but the land was later purchased by the county for a landscaped parking lot and beach access.  Sigh.  Another piece of roadside America is gone forever.

remember Sunday Stamps!  This week, anything you wish.
