Sunday Stamps: Urban Scenes

Good day and welcome to my blog.

The theme for Sunday Stamps this week is Urban Scenes.  One thinks of buildings and cityscapes for this, but I am taking a different view:

Stamps from the US Postal Service celebrating hip hop.  This is a set, and the rest are shown below:

Hip hop music started in an urban setting.  The USPS pinpoints New York City in the mid 1970's. It is now a global phenomenon.

Sunday Stamps - Heads of State

Welcome to my entry to Sunday Stamps.  It's going to be a hot day in the American Midwest - a projected high of 92 degrees F (33.3 C).

This week's theme is heads of state.  I have some older stamps for this.

Some humble stamps used for penny postcards.  Ben Franklin was not a head of state but one of the Founding Fathers of the USA, and of course Washington was our first president.

Good day, and welcome to a cool rainy day in the American Midwest.

Today's theme for Sunday Stamps is 2022 issues.  I have a set so new, they aren't being released until August 5!

National Marine Sanctuaries issue:

One stamp, and a view of the set.  Pictures from the USPS website.

Have a great Sunday.

Sunday Stamps: Monochromatic

Good day and welcome to my blog.  It is a warm, lovely day in the American Midwest.

The theme for Sunday Stamps is Monochromatic.  The USPS has a number of stamps that qualify, but this is a newer one:

A $2 stamp that would likely be affixed to packages, so you may not see it often.

Sunday Stamps: Writers

Good day, and welcome to a very warm day in the American Midwest.  I have been remiss in my posting for Sunday stamps!  And I do have a writer and a poem for today.  It is a repeat from a long ago post when I was hosting Sunday Stamps.

Walt Whitman, known for Leaves of Grass and who is appreciated more as times go by.  I like this excerpt from Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking:

Once Paumanok,

When the lilac-scent was in the air and Fifth-month grass was growing,

Up this seashore in some briers,

Two feather'd guests from Alabama, two together,

And their nest, and four light-green eggs spotted with brown,

And every day the he-bird to and fro near at hand,

And every day the she-bird crouch'd on her nest, silent, with bright eyes,

And every day I, a curious boy, never too close, never disturbing them,

Cautiously peering, absorbing, translating.

Shine! shine! shine!

Pour down your warmth, great sun!

While we bask, we two together.

Two together!

Winds blow south, or winds blow north,

Day come white, or night come black,

Home, or rivers and mountains from home,

Singing all time, minding no time,

While we two keep together.
