Sunday Stamps: Winter/Snow

Good day, and welcome to my contribution to Sunday Stamps.  It is absolutely clear, sunny, and cold today in the American Midwest.

Today's theme is winter or snow.  I have a set of stamps issued by the US Postal Service in 2016.  Each year they issue a religious Christmas stamp, and a set of secular Holiday stamps.

The scan and words below are theirs.

"In 2016, the U.S. Postal Service® issues Holiday Windows, four new stamps that rejoice in the simple pleasures of the season.

Nothing compares to the tranquil calm of a winter evening after the snow has fallen and the sun has set. Whether you enjoy viewing the peaceful scene from a cozy spot indoors or feeling the chill on your face outside, these brief moments remind us of what makes this time of year so special. Recalling nostalgic winter nights from childhood, these stamps highlight the role windows play during the holidays, letting us delight in the snow when we’re inside while also sharing our warmth and merriment with the outside world.

Conveying the joyful and reverent spirit of the holiday season, these elegant stamps showcase various ways we observe traditions and spread cheer. Each stamp is sure to add a dash of winter bliss to letters and cards during the year’s coldest months."

(I shared these on the blog back in 2016).

Sunday Stamps: The letter "E"

Good day, and welcome to my contribution to Sunday Stamps.  The clouds are clearing and it's about 40 degrees F. outside.

This week's theme is the Letter "E".

I have a stamp currently available at the US Postal Service website:

The image is from their website.  This is a stylized image of an Elephant and baby.  Thank goodness people are in general treating elephants more ethically (not everywhere it is true) and the ivory trade is slowing down.

Sunday Stamps: Islands

Good day, and welcome to a cool but bright sunny day in the American Midwest.  It's time for Sunday Stamps and the theme this week is islands.

This stamp I shared back in 2012 so it's ok for it to come out again.  It is an island in Thailand.

It's a lovely island scene from Thailand, only partially obscured by the postmark.  Ko Panyi is a fishing village with houses on stilts, according to Wikipedia.  More tourism is coming to this area over time.

Sunday Stamps: Anniversaries

Good day, and welcome to another cold and moderately cloudy day in the American Midwest.

It's time for Sunday Stamps.  The theme this week is anniversaries.

I have a stamp from my Postcrossing days, from Germany:

It is a stamp commemorating 200 years of the publication of the Grimm Brothers' fairy tales.  There is an open book, and in the center I think you can see the Bremen town musicians.  I can't quite make out the other characters, given the cancellation.
