Sunday Stamps: Water

The them for Sunday Stamps this week is water.  I note that a few contributors have no people in their views, and the same goes for me, in this stamp from the US Postal Service:

This is a stamp celebrating Maine statehood.  In early years it was part of Massachusetts.  This view is part of Acadia National Park, a beautiful part of the coast of Maine.  The one time I visited, as a teen, there was a lot of fog and some rain when our family was there.

Sunday Stamps: Flying objects

I am joining Sunday Stamps again.
The theme for this week is things that fly.  One thinks of birds right away, but there are other things,  such as butterflies:

This is the California Dogface butterfly.  It is worth 70 cents, and is meant for square or irregular sized envelopes.

I don't see a dog's face (supposedly the profile of a poodle) myself, but hey, you may.  It's a pretty bright yellow.

Blue stamps and Earth Day

Today's theme for Sunday Stamps is Blue.

I have a stamp from the US Postal Service celebrating Earth Day that is somewhat blue:

Reminding us of the blue and green planet we live on - the only habitable planet we know.  Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 every year.  This year (in the time of COVID-19) is the 50th anniversary and any big celebrations have been cancelled.  We will have to remember Earth Day remotely.

Sunday Stamps: Geology

It's a stressful time right now in the USA,with corona virus everywhere it seems, and the peak of sickness still a week or two away.

To get away from this I looked in my computer files and found a bunch of scans of mineral stamps.  I'll share just two from Kenya.

Amethyst, in natural crystal form and polished as a gem, and

tourmaline, in a rock and also as a gem.  Amethyst is the purple form of quartz, and tourmaline is a complex silicate with boron and beryllium in its structure.
