Sunday Stamps: Marine Life

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  It is a lovely warm day in the American Midwest,  warmer that usual for this time of year.

It's time for Sunday Stamps, and the theme this week is Marine Life.

I have a timely stamp - it was just released on March 27 this year.

From the US Postal Service, a stamp honoring the endangered manatee, a marine mammal.  I actually have never seen this animal, not even in a zoo.

Sunday Stamps: Dragons

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  It is a cool and cloudy day in the American Midwest, and time for Sunday Stamps.

The theme today is dragons or saints (thinking of St. George).

I have a stamp from 2012 that I have shared before, but it's really beautiful:

From the US Postal Service:

"Dragons aren't always scary monsters. Consider the colorful creature depicted by the U.S. Postal Service® in its 2012 Year of the Dragon (Forever®) stamp, fifth in the Celebrating Lunar New Year series! The Year of the Dragon begins on January 23, 2012, and ends on February 9, 2013.

Combining original artwork by Kam Mak with two elements from the previous series of Lunar New Year stamps — Clarence Lee's intricate paper-cut design of a dragon and the Chinese character for "Dragon," drawn in grass-style calligraphy by Lau Bun — art director Ethel Kessler has created a culturally rich stamp design that celebrates the diversity of the American experience."

Sunday Stamps: Trees or Leaves

Good day and welcome to my blog!

It's a nice sunny day in the American Midwest.  For the eclipse on Monday, we had only a few high clouds - perfect viewing weather.  What an amazing sight!

Anyhow, it's time for Sunday Stamps.  Our theme this week is trees or leaves.  I am going to bend the theme this week to stretch it to rose bushes:

An older Great Britain stamp -though I do not know how old.  Yes there are leaves in the stamp!

Sunday Stamps: The Sun

Good Day, and welcome to my stamp blog.  Tomorrow is the great American eclipse, and my area of the American Midwest is in the path of totality!  I'll be busy in the morning but take the afternoon off, to watch the eclipse from my own backyard.

So: the theme today is the Sun.  The US Postal Service has not issued any stamps for this, unlike the Canadians.  So I am going to sneak in this stamp:

A hummingbird on a sunflower.  Hey, it's the closest I could get.  This is from a recently released booklet of stamps.  Each stamp shows a hummingbird and flowers.  The image here is from the US Postal Service.
