Postcard Friendship Friday: Think Spring

No postmark or stamp, addressed to Miss Elizabeth Heurton.

Thursday Jan. 2 1913. to Dear Elizabeth, With lots of love for a very happy birthday. With love from her baby sister Louise.

This is written in a lady's handwriting, so I think it's from one grown up sister to another.

We have a dusting of snow on the ground here (!) and my daffodils are ruined. So I really need a colorful Springy postcard.

Addressed to Miss Ida Patton, Monticello, Ill., R.D. #1 [rural Delivery route #1] Postmarked Peoria Ill March 8 1915.

“With Hearty Greetings: As time goes onward/May each Birthday be/Brighter and ever brighter/Dear, to thee.
Good Morning – This is just to wish the very Best Birthday and the happiest New Years for you – Cheer up – Spring’s on the way- Winter’s on its last legs & they are wobbly- Presume you are busy these days with the new little chicks- Hope you will have hundreds of them this year – We did think Spring had come, but have had 3 days of snow & colder weather – Saw Jennie at Church and S.S. [Sunday school] – There’s a birthday kiss for you - with my love Lucy P.D.”

Monticello is a small town not far from Champaign-Urbana, in central Illinois. Ida however is out in the country, on the rural delivery route. Raising chicks is another clue she is on a farm. I like the message here of one friend cheering up another.
