Good day, and welcome to my blog. It is a cold but sunny day in the American Midwest, and it's time for Sunday Stamps.
Our theme today is famous women, and our hostess has shared a famous astronaut. This made me think of a stamp I have shared before, from Russia:
This is Valentina Tereshkova, first woman to have flown in space (in June 1963). Still the only woman to fly a solo mission (at 26 years old!). This stamp is for the 50th anniversary of that flight. Her call sign was Chaika or "seagull" therefore the bird appears on this stamp.
Please visit SeeitonaPostcard and see who else is playing.

Over 60 years ago... incredible. I think including the seagull is such a nice touch
Oh, Tereshkova is the astronaut!
And I like the stamp in a stamp :)
Somehow, I didn't know (or remember) about 'seagull'. She is certainly infamous.
One of the all time famous cosmonauts appearing on lots of stamps. I like this one and the seagull. I did not know that was her call sign.
Other countries were so far ahead of the US in terms of women in aviation (and other sciences). This is an interesting stamp, a stamp on a stamp. At the time of this stamp's issue Hillary Clinton, a young teen, wanted to be an astronaut, and was told it was only for men.
A vintage stamp!
