Happy PFF! The Mysterious Hanging Boulder

Thank you to our hostess Beth at The Best Hearts are Crunchy for hosting Postcard Friendship Friday. Click on the link to see who else is playing!

On the front: " The mysterious hanging boulder mystifies all who pass under.  Polar Caves, N.H."

On the back:  "Polar Caves, N.H., America's greatest Boulder Caverns.  A maze of caves and spectacular rock formations.  All caverns colorfully lighted.  Different from and [sic] caverns you may have seen.  Nothing like it on the American continent."

I love older tourist postcards like this.  Whether it's a giant dinosaur or jackalope, a big ball of string, or an odd piece of geology, I find it so funny.  Terribly funny, in all senses of the words.  Ken Brown has a good time making fun of these postcards.

Polar caves in Rumney NH is still there and still an active tourist location.  Its website is, of course, http://www.polarcaves.com/.  I browsed the photo album, and yes, the mysterious hanging boulder is still there.

These old tourist cards are wonderful indeed. I like how everybody is posing on this card and the faded colours. And sure it must be quite a sensation to walk under a hanging stone. I can understand that after that you want to send a postcard to your loved ones.

Lovely old postcard! When tourist attraction has a history from then to now it feels as if many eyes and feet are joining together through time! That hanging boulder must be awesome!

Thank you for joining my Weekend Mailbox meme again!

Reminds me of a card I once saw of a family pretending they were about to drive off a cliff. Starched scarves. Arms waving etc. Brilliant stuff.

I love the suits and ties - very suited for a trip through caves, don't you think?

Cool card! But there's no mystery, geologically speaking - just cause and effect. God knows... let's ask him!

I suppose after all this time, it must be safe enough. I'd be quite wary of walking under it though.

What an amazing place. After all these years the old tourist card is still doing it's job, showing people interesting places.

The hanging boulder is still there! Wow--that is pretty cool. I think I'd be reluctant to walk beneath said boulder--except it had been there for so many eons!

This is a wonderful postcard--and you're right--they are funny!

Happy PFF!
