Sunday Stamps: No English words

Good day and welcome to my stamp blog.  It is a cold but sunny day in the American Midwest, and time for Sunday Stamps.

Our theme today is "no English words".  This made me think of Russian or Soviet stamps.

A stamp featuring children's art, from the CCCP (that is, the USSR).  It is from 1979.  (I have featured this stamp before.)

No English words, and also the Cyrillic alphabet, so I am really lost.  But it's a sweet image.

Sunday Stamps: Flags

Good Day, and welcome to my blog.  It is snowing briskly under a gray sky in the American Midwest, and the roads are slippery.  Time to stay inside and post to Sunday Stamps.

I am sharing a stamp from a postcard I received from Postcrossing, some years ago now.  But this country is back in the news:

(I have shared this several times.)  I like that this Postcrosser included the surrounding printed material, so that you can really see the waving flag.

And, a standard flag stamp from the USA:

This scan is from the US Postal Service.

PS.  I dislike the current political direction the USA is going, but that is all I will say about that.

Sunday Stamps: Minerals & Gems

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  It is a cloudy Sunday and about 33 F here in the American Midwest.  Later today will be the Superbowl for American football, but more importantly (to me), it's time for Sunday Stamps.

Our theme today is minerals and/or gems, a favorite theme of mine.  Here are some I last shared in 2011:

From the left: Uranium ore, quartz, aragonite, and malachite, on stamps from Benin.   I must have purchased these in a grouping from a stamp dealer, maybe off Ebay.  I never received a postcard from Benin when I was in Postcrossing.

Sunday Stamps: Reptiles/snakes

Good day, and welcome to another cool cloudy Sunday in the American Midwest.

It's time for Sunday Stamps.

It's Lunar New Year and the beginning of the Year of the Snake, and the USPS has issued stamps for the occasion.  As requested by Finnbadger, here is the scan of the full sheet, from the USPS:

Their scan of one stamp:

The USPS calls this a mask of a snake, but it sure doesn't look like one.  And the foil aspects of the stamps don't come through in these scans.
Happy Lunar New Year!
