Sunday Stamps: Flags

Good Day and welcome.  It is a lovely sunny morning in the American Midwest, and time for Sunday Stamps.

The theme today is national holidays, and flags.  I have a USA stamp I shared in 2016:

And I see the date in the corner is 2014.  Appropriate for this week, as it has the USA flag, and fireworks, and it's almost Independence Day (for the USA).  People in my neighborhood are already shooting off some fireworks.  This makes it hard to relax and get to sleep.  We have a family cookout planned for Thursday.

Sunday Stamps: Black and white

Good day, and welcome to my stamp and postcard blog.  I also have a quilt blog.

Today is a moderate rainy day in the American Midwest, and it's Sunday, so time for Sunday Stamps.  I have an older stamp, shared a while ago:

This is a pot made by Native Americans of the Acoma pueblo.  I believe it was part of a set of stamps of pottery from the American Southwest.  This pueblo is my favorite, and I love their black and white designs.

Sunday Stamps: Fatherly Figures

Good Day, and welcome to my blog.  It is a cool morning in the American Midwest, but will soon go up to 90 degrees F as the heat dome overtakes us.

It's time for Sunday Stamps, and I am sharing a stamp issued last year by the US Postal Service.  It is of Chief Standing Bear.

Chief Standing Bear, a Ponca chief
In 1879, Chief Standing Bear won a landmark court ruling that determined a Native American was a person under the law with an inherent right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Their homeland in NE Nebraska was given away and about 700 Ponca people had been relocated to Indian Territory (OK).  Standing Bear sued the government for his freedom after being arrested, along with 29 others, for attempting to return to his homeland.
After winning his case, he and others from his tribe were allowed to return to their old reservation.
In 1924, one issue that his 1879 case had raised was finally resolved when Congress adopted the Indian Citizenship Act, which conferred citizenship on all Native Americans born in the United States.

Sunday Stamps: Countryside

Good Day, and welcome to my blog.  It is a cool sunny morning here in the American Midwest, with warmer temperatures later on.

It's time for Sunday Stamps, and the theme is the countryside.  Having none in hand, I did a google search and an anonymous Amazon seller came to my rescue:

This is a set of Forever stamps of winter scenes, but there is a red barn, and some wildlife.

Sunday Stamps: Movement

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  It is a cool cloudy day in the American Midwest, and time for Sunday Stamps.

The theme this week is movement, and there are a number of ways to interpret this.  How to show this in a small space?

The US Postal Service came to my rescue, with a set of stamps showing endless movement, endlessly the same:

And a scan of just one:

Some famous locations, such as Yosemite and Yellowstone, but also some lesser known waterfalls.  See the USPS webpage for the details on these.  All beautiful, in my opinion.
