Sunday Stamps # 49

In which we celebrate the holidays with Christmas or other seasonal stamps.

This is one of the stamps issued for this year by the US Postal Service.  According to the USPS:

"The artist known to posterity as Raphael had it all — he was talented, handsome, and even-tempered. At a very young age, he became a great master of the Italian High Renaissance. A detail from his painting, Madonna of the Candelabra, showing the Madonna and Child, is the traditional Christmas stamp for 2011."  This painting dates to about 1513 and is now is the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore MD.

The Postal service has also issued non-religious holiday stamps, a Hanukah stamp,an Eid stamp, and a Kwanzaa stamp for this year.

Your holiday stamps don't have to be from this year, but I hope you will share a stamp or two with us.

Next Sunday is Christmas itself.  I will be running Sunday stamps with the theme of Christmas and holidays again, but I understand if you are busy that day.  I'll try to get my post up earlier on Saturday - yet another busy day!

I didn't really feel comfortable with either of this years Christmas stamps, so I bought the evergreen stamps.

France has two sets of stamps this year, one religious and one not. In the UK they produced religious stamps but said on the website that last year's Wallace and Grommit would still be available. Tell that to my local post office.

I found these great pre-stamped, Christmas aerogrammes in my stamp album. I've clearly had them for years but don't remember them at all, so it was a bit like receiving a new gift this morning when I was searching for inspiration for this post. Happy Sunday Stamps everyone, and Happy Christmas.

I prefer more cartoonish Christmas kinds of stamps, Im not much of a religious kind of person though I do like to use such stamps on my mail for people whom i know love those.
I was lucky enough to receive a great cover this year containing ALL the holiday stamps issued by the USPS this year...Hanukkah, Christmas (religious and non-religious), Kwanzaa, Eid...a beautiful colourful cover...which I hopefully will have the chance to share in one of the following Sunday Stamps issues :)

Merry Christmas to all in case I dont see you next weekend...here we celebrate Christmas in January, so still there is more time for us :)

Nice painting...I AM able to pronounce RA-FA-EL, unlike some people who say RA-FI-EL...:)

My post discloses Santa's Workshop as being in Wilmington, NY...:)

"For a dwalla, I'll letchu twauk to my dwaug!"...that's my version of a nu-yok accent...:)
I dedicate that to all my fellow Americans who are unaware that EVERYBODY has an accent (within the English language, for example).
:)
Merry Christmas!
