Sunday Stamps: Maps on stamps

Good day and welcome.  Yet another gray day in the American Midwest, this time with some snow flurries added in.

It's time for Sunday Stamps.  This week the theme is maps or flags on stamps.  I have a stamp from Belarus, that I first shared about 10 years ago:

The grand emperor penguins and a map of Antarctica.  Interesting to see the globe turned "upside down" for this!

Visit SeeitonaPostcard for more participants.

I have a page on Facebook: keep up with my infrequent quilt and stamp posts at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Viridian61/347674418583948?ref=hl

Sunday Stamps II Feb. 25

Welcome to my blog on postcards and stamps.

Today I am contributing to Sunday Stamps, which is up to the letter B in the tour of the alphabet.  Violet Sky has shared a badger (barsuk) on a stamp for Belarus.  I have also found an animal stamp from Belarus:

This is the southern white-breasted hedgehog (Erinaceus concolor), sometimes referred to as east European hedgehog, white-bellied hedgehog or white-chested hedgehog, according to Wikipedia.  It does not appear to be threatened.  A cute little animal, at least on this stamp!!!

Sunday Stamps II 92

Welcome to a beautiful fall day in the American Midwest.

The theme this week is fruits and nuts.  My stamps is from Belarus:

As I posted before:
This is the gooseberry or Grossularia, on a stamp from Belarus.  We do not know gooseberries and do not use them in the USA, or at least very rarely.  I do remember seeing them for sale, fresh, and as preserves, when I visited Poland.

According to Wikipedia: "Gooseberries are often used as an ingredient in desserts, such as pies, fools and crumbles. They are also used to flavour beverages such as sodas, flavoured waters, or milk, and can be made into fruit wines and teas. Gooseberries can be preserved in the form of jams, dried fruit, or as the primary or a secondary ingredient in pickling, or stored in sugar syrup."

Sunday Stamps II 73 Maps on Stamps

Hello and welcome to my contribution to Sunday Stamps, now run over at See it on a Postcard.
The theme this week is maps on stamps.
My contribution is a repeat from a post from 2012 - but I have no new stamps to offer, as I am not participating in Postcrossing at the moment.

This stamp from Belarus did come to me via Postcrossing some time ago.  Love the penguins.

Sunday Stamps II - 66

The theme this week at Sunday Stamps is the color (or colour) GREEN.

I looked through my old postings and came up with a green Christmas stamp.

It is from Belarus.  I hope you can see it also has silver embossing on it!

Enjoy the weekend,

Sunday Stamps #114

Welcome to Sunday Stamps.
When I picked the theme of Stamps from Ireland, or green stamps, in honor of St. Patrick's day, I was sure I had a recent card from a Postcrosser in Ireland, and I would find it in the photo album I use to store my postcards, and just scan the stamp.  No such luck!  So I have for you today a green stamp, but for the Christmas season.

I should also remember that St. Patrick's day is not such a big deal in other parts of the world.  March 17 is indeed the Saint's day for St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, but honestly you would think he is the patron saint of this part of the midwest USA, and especially the college I work for.  Unless there is a patron saint of basketball (is there??)

So maybe you can find a green stamp, such as this one from Belarus.

Theme next week: continuing the color theme - let's go pink.

Tuesday Postcard

I am joining up with Beth for Postcard Friendship Friday, very late indeed.

This is a Christmas postcard I recently received from a Postcrosser in Belarus.  What you can't see is the card is embossed with silver (does not scan well) and the stamp on the reverse has silver on it too.

Here in the midwest USA it is quite a bit warmer than usual.  It's hard to expect snow when the temperature rarely drops below freezing.

Sunday Stamps # 75

Our theme this week is food and drink of all sorts.  I would add this can be fruit on the vine, or in a delicate dessert.  I actually had some difficulty in finding a suitable stamp on my recent Postcrossing postcards, but I did eventually find one.

You know, I don't think I've ever tasted them.  I'll have to try, the next time I am in Europe.

Join me in a bite of food, or a treat, or lift a glass.

Theme next week:  Anything you wish.  I will be on vacation June 15 - 26 and will have only intermittent internet access so I will check in as I can.

Sunday Stamps #72

Theme for this week: Maps on stamps, a theme suggested by Helen. I finally have one to share!!
And here it is:

This arrived recently on a postcard from a Postcrosser in Belarus.  Featured are the magnificent Emperor penguins, with a map of Antarctica in the background.  Maps on stamps are more common than I thought - I tend to overlook them somehow.

It's a holiday weekend here in the US but I hope you can join us for Sunday Stamps.  I will be away from my computer on a short family holiday so I will be late in commenting.

Theme next week;  anything you wish.

Sunday Stamps #6

Wow, week #6  I guess it's not a new meme anymore, but on its way to becoming an established meme.

Last week's theme was Rockets and Space
This week's theme is "Any stamp you wish", with perhaps a nod to Valentine's Day and love and flowers.  Here are some delicate flower stamps from Belarus, that sure get me thinking about Spring.  They arrived on a Postcrossing card.  The fish?  I am not sure about them, I doubt tropical fish can be found in Belarus, except in an aquarium.

What would you like to receive as a gift from your Valentine?  I have been on a diet for some time (and have lost 25 pounds) so I am hoping for some fine jewelry :-)

I hope you will take a moment to visit the other participants in Sunday Stamps.

PS. Linky tools will be performing an update 1 - 2 AM USA Eastern time and may be unavailable during that time.

PPS. Editted to add: theme next week will be presidents/world leaders (its President's Day in the USA).
