Sunday Stamps: Poets and writers

 Good day, and welcome.

This week's theme for Sunday stamps is poets and writers.  I have here an image of a set of stamps issued by the US Postal Service some time ago:

My favorite perhaps is Wallace Stevens, insurance executive by day, poet in his off hours.   All of these poets are worth your further investigation!

Sunday Stamps: Women

And I have a woman scientist, who could have been shared last week.  This is a new stamp, advertised on the USPS website, but not available yet.

From wikipedia:

Chien-Shiung Wu was a Chinese-American experimental physicist who made significant contributions in the field of nuclear physics. Wu worked on the Manhattan Project, where she helped develop the process for separating uranium into uranium-235 and uranium-238 isotopes by gaseous diffusion. She is best known for conducting the Wu experiment, which proved that parity is not conserved. This discovery resulted in her colleagues Tsung-Dao Lee and Chen-Ning Yang winning the 1957 Nobel Prize in Physics, while Wu herself was awarded the inaugural Wolf Prize in Physics in 1978. Her expertise in experimental physics evoked comparisons to Marie Curie. Her nicknames include the "First Lady of Physics", the "Chinese Madame Curie" and the "Queen of Nuclear Research".

Sunday Stamps: Science

I am happy to join in this week!

This is a stamp I have shared before, but perfect for today.  A stamp from Poland:

Charles Darwin (1809 - 1882) is perhaps most famous for his book the On Origin of Species but he wrote many other works. According to Wikipedia "His five-year voyage on HMS Beagle established him as an eminent geologist whose observations and theories supported Charles Lyell's uniformitarian ideas, and publication of his journal of the voyage made him famous as a popular author."..."In 1871 he examined human evolution and sexual selection in The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex, followed by The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals. His research on plants was published in a series of books, and in his final book, he examined earthworms and their effect on soil." Yes earthworms.  He is buried in Westminster Abbey.

Sunday Stamps: Food and drink

Hello, welcome and Happy New Year!  I am hoping that 2021 will be a better year than the mess that was 2020.  Here in the USA early indications are not good for this, but we shall see.

Anyway, it's time for Sunday Stamps. and the theme is food and drink.  SeeitonaPostcard has some wonderful cheese and wine stamps.  I have the humble strawberry:

A stamp for making up postage from the US Postal Service.  It shows the large garden strawberry, with ripe and unripe fruit and blossom.  I am used to the smaller and tastier wild strawberry I used to pick as a kid.
