Pink Saturday

Hello and welcome to Pink Saturday!

I am joining with Beverly at How Sweet the Sound. Click on the link and see who else is joining the party.

This is another in my collection of Holy Cards.  Today in honor of fall and Halloween our posting does not have to be pink, but can be in fall colors.
This is the famous quote from Isaiah on peace like a river.  Click on the card image and see.

Happy PFF! The Mysterious Hanging Boulder

Thank you to our hostess Beth at The Best Hearts are Crunchy for hosting Postcard Friendship Friday. Click on the link to see who else is playing!

On the front: " The mysterious hanging boulder mystifies all who pass under.  Polar Caves, N.H."

On the back:  "Polar Caves, N.H., America's greatest Boulder Caverns.  A maze of caves and spectacular rock formations.  All caverns colorfully lighted.  Different from and [sic] caverns you may have seen.  Nothing like it on the American continent."

I love older tourist postcards like this.  Whether it's a giant dinosaur or jackalope, a big ball of string, or an odd piece of geology, I find it so funny.  Terribly funny, in all senses of the words.  Ken Brown has a good time making fun of these postcards.

Polar caves in Rumney NH is still there and still an active tourist location.  Its website is, of course, http://www.polarcaves.com/.  I browsed the photo album, and yes, the mysterious hanging boulder is still there.

Sunday stamps #1

I think I'll make this a semi-regular feature of this blog - some selected stamps, mostly from my postcard collection.
The top stamps are from a postcard from Russia, and are two more stamps in a series of paintings.  I showed one in a previous post.
The bottom stamps are from Macedonia  from a Postcrossing postcard.
I am also linking to Gemma's Weekend Mailbox meme.

Pink Saturday Oct. 23

Hello and welcome to Pink Saturday!
I am joining with Beverly at How Sweet the Sound. Click on the link and see who else is joining the party.

This card is about the size of Holy Cards (Catholics will know what I mean).  The printing quality is excellent. Cars like this were handed out as prized in Sunday School.  I purchased a lot of these to cut up for collages, but now I can't bear to.

"I will bless thee and make thy name great and thou shalt be a blessing. Gen. XII 2"

Enjoy the rose and beautiful butterfly, and let them enhance your wonderful weekend.  With two boys in trouble at school this week, I sure need some pretty to contemplate.

happy PFF: General view of Athol Mass.

Thank you to our hostess Beth at The Best Hearts are Crunchy for hosting Postcard Friendship Friday. Click on the link to see who else is playing!

Athol Massachusetts is located in the north-central part of the state, on the Millers river.
The area was first settled in the early 1700's.  It was named by an early settler who thought the hills reminded him of his  ancestral home of Blair Atholl, Scotland.  (If one can believe Wikipedia).

Mills of all sort were set up along the river. According to Wikipedia, "The Athol Machine Company was established in 1868 in order to manufacture a chopping machine invented by Laroy S. Starrett. In 1881, Mr. Starrett established the L. S. Starrett Company, known for making quality precision tools. The company remains the town’s largest employer to this day, and thus does Athol live up to the nickname “Tool Town.”

The town website is http://www.athol-ma.gov/.  Athol has had some hard times but seems to be rebounding.  Population has increased some, and they were designated a green community. In the late summer and fall there is a series of concerts called "Tool Town Live."

Pink Saturday October 16

Hello and welcome to Pink Saturday!

I am joining with Beverly at How Sweet the Sound. Click on the link and see who else is joining the party.

This is a card that came as part of a lot on ebay. They are a little smaller, and a slightly different shape than postcards, but not as small as Holy cards. I believe they were given out as awards in Sunday Schools of the past.

The quote on the card is "He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds."  From Psalm 147.

Last week's card was a classic rose, and this one is also beautiful - the simple wind blown wild rose.

PFF: Brockton, MA

Thank you to our hostess Beth at The Best Hearts are Crunchy for hosting Postcard Friendship Friday. Click on the link to see who else is playing!

These two postcards are vintage views of Brockton Massachusetts.  I previously showed another postcard of Brockton, the Snow Memorial Fountain.

These are typical and average views of a Northeast city.  I doubt such postcards would be made today however.  Is an arch a tourist attraction?  It's not like the Snow Memorial Fountain.

Russian stamps, and a possible meme??

These stamps were on a Postcrossing postcard from Russia.  I wish I could read the language and know more about these paintings.
I am attracted to miniature anything, and what is more perfect than stamps? A mini work of art, or a picture of another land.

I am thinking of starting a meme, say, "Sunday Stamps", where bloggers could share interesting, pretty, or rare stamps.  Would anyone out there be interested?  [voice echoing in the emptiness]

I consider my religion to be a private thing, and usually don't quote Scripture on this blog.  Here though is what the card says:

"Thus shall they know that I the Lord their God am with them."
"For his great love wherewith he loved us."

I really like the graphics of this period, and this particular pink rose.

Pink Saturday - Oct. 2

Hello and welcome to Pink Saturday!

I am joining with Beverly at How Sweet the Sound. Click on the link and see who else is joining the party.

This is a postcard from Carol in Great Britian, that I received through Postcrossing.  You can read about postcrossing in my previous post.  I have received over 500 card, and I can say that pink ones are rather rare!  It sure is cute.  Unfortuantely the US postal sorting machines have marred the surface.

Thank you Carol, for your card!
