Sunday Stamps #46

Welocme to Sunday Stamps #46! Today's theme is Art on stamps.

A stamp from France, showing a self-portrait of Albrecht Durer.   This is the Self-portrait with a thistle, in the Louvre. (Durer painted several others.)  This is part of my collection from the early days, when my roomate C. was receiving letters and packages from her mother in France.

Join me and share art miniatures on stamps.
Theme next week: anything you wish.

An excellent portrait.
He was also known for his great works in the printmaking medium.
I have two entries again for this week, I hope you can visit them when you have time ;)

Have a great Sunday!

I was wondering where the thistle was until I realised it's probably a detail of a larger painting. It was worth googling - the painting was done in 1493 when he was 22!

How nice, stamps with a memory attached, I can just imagine a brown paper parcel with lots of French stamps.
Wonderful artist, I always love his woodcuts too.

I've tken the liberty of putting up a photo on Constable's dog to clarify the stamp I put up earlier.

Nice stamp, and destiny...Albrecht was grateful to his brother, who worked in the mine so Albrecht could pursue his talent...Read on.
