Sepia Satuday 101

Not my 101st contribution but it is Sepia Saturday's 101st week. I joined for the first time last week. For this week, I was inspired by the mountains in the background of the Chevrolet ad image. I was looking for a certain geology/mountain image of my memory but could not find it. Here is one I DID find:

Source: American Memory, The Evolution of the Conservation Movement, 1850-1920.

William Henry Jackson and another man with photographic equipment on mountain in Yellowstone Park, Wyoming, 1871-1878.

Is it just me or does there appear to be a huge drop-off to the left?
It is hard to imagine taking such classic photos in the rough Wild West, with glass plate negatives, no less.
Be sure to visit this week's Sepia Saturday!

I went to Yellowstone as a child with fond memories. I would not want to be sitting as close to the edge as these men!

I know isn't it crazy how so many of those photos came to be! This is a fantastic shot...and welcome to one of my most favorite pastimes of all...Sepia Saturday!

It looks like a dropoff to the left, and it looks like the men will slide forward off the rocks toward the camera.

That does look like a big drop off, but what beautiful scenery. Living in western Oregon, dry rocky landscapes are my idea of exotic and beautiful.

It does look extremely precarious, and I don't like to imagine where the cameraman is. I don't have a good head for heights.

Most impressive! It does look as though there is a sheer drop.

But how did they get there with their equipment they must be nearly a thousnd feet up on rugged terrain?

Glad you are back and becoming a Sepia Saturday regular. It is not just that there is a big drop, it is also that they seem to have their backs to it and be ignoring it. Now we just need to move the camera back a bit .....!

The hairs on the back of my neck are standing up. I get vertigo just from imagining this scenario. Those two men are the essence of cool, calm and collected. Now where on earth is the photographer? There go my neck-hairs again!

Welcome back to Sepia Saturday! What an amazing photo. I'm getting scared just imagining what it would be like to be standing there.

Thank you so much for your visit and comment.

Take care,

Kathy M.

I don't know what you had in mind originally, but this is a splendid shot, if one doesn't look to the left... I'd be pissing my pants if I stood there!! This coming from a guy living in a big concrete building and not too bothered looking down...
Odd, no?!?
