Postcard Friendship Friday June 3

In which I continue my chrome postcard journey on the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Say Ethel, remember this place? You were wearing your flowered muu muu and we met that cute young thing, what was her name?  After a few zombie drinks it's a wonder I remember anything.

From the back; "Visitors revel in the beautiful and romantic atmosphere of TIKI GARDENS - "Oro", two-faced Wind God in the foreground, Tahiti Hut in background, this exotic attraction is located on Indian Rocks Beach, between Clearwater and St. Petersburg, Florida."

Sadly this exotic place is no more.  It was torn down in 1990, initially for a hotel but the land was later purchased by the county for a landscaped parking lot and beach access.  Sigh.  Another piece of roadside America is gone forever.

remember Sunday Stamps!  This week, anything you wish.

Like Joanie Mitchell sang - "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot".

Me thinks that tiki was inspired a wee bit by the Easter Island fellows. Shame it's gone.

way too many landscaped parking lots and not enough Americana.... great post card. Happy PFF!

What a terrible shame to tear down something like that, just for parking. And they no doubt call it progress.

That's sad, it happens a lot here, too. Old colonial buildings are torn down to be replaced by ugly apartment buildings. How's that?
At least you still have the postcard to reminisce about old Americana.
Have a great weekend.

Although they say that chanes is good, but i think not all the time just like when they change this beautiful place into a lousy parking lot.

That's really sad that I don't get to see it anymore. I love sending and receiving postcards. Mine is up - My PFF Entry. Thanks for sharing and Happy PFF!

Love the tiki. Too bad they went out of fashion! Although we do have Trader Sam's in San Francisco, which is the last of a breed.

It would have felt so exotic to tourists back in the day. Probably got dry ice and a slice of pineapple in a banana daquari with your shrimp cocktail.
Nearly the entire length of the beaches on Pinellas County - from Clearwater to the south has been razed. Gone are the old tiki's and grass huts - in favor of modern hotels and condo's.

That was a lovely Tiki, I suspect that it lives on in hundreds of tourist photo albums.
