Sunday Stamps #15

In which the theme is Easter, or a stamp with a religious topic - any religion.

A little askew on the bed of the scanner!  But it's one of the few religious stamps I have, that does not involve Christmas angels.

A stamp from Monaco, honoring the 100th anniversary of the dogma of the Immaculate conception of Mary, mother of Jesus.  From Wikipedia: "The Immaculate Conception was solemnly defined as a dogma by Pope Pius IX in his constitution Ineffabilis Deus on 8 December 1854. The Catholic Church teaches that the dogma is supported by Scripture (e.g., Mary's being greeted by the Angel Gabriel as "full of grace") as well as either directly or indirectly by the writings of Church Fathers such as Irenaeus of Lyons and Ambrose of Milan.  Catholic theology maintains that since Jesus became incarnate of the Virgin Mary, it was fitting that she be completely free of sin for expressing her fiat."

Why the date on the stamp is 1858, I really don't know.

Happy Sunday Stamps!  Link in below, and visit others who are joining us.

That's an unusual stamp.

It does seem like most religious stamps are for Christmas.

I have had that stamp for many years...:)
"Defined as dogma" - that says it.

Mine is similar to yours. I love the uncommon shape of the stamp. The Immaculate Conception is the patron in my hometown and we celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Concepcion every December 8.

Happy Sunday!

Interesting shape and a stamp I have never seen before.

I wonder about the significance of the two popes. The word dogma is interesting.

Late! I've been out and about this weekend.

I think your stamp commemorates the apparition of Our Lady of Lourdes to Bernadette, a peasant girl, in 1858. The "QUE SOY ERA IMMACULADA COUNCEPCIOU" are the words Bernadette heard.

I had difficulty with the theme, but it's fun searching. :)
