Early postcard of the Statue of Capt. Parker, Lexington Mass. Mid April is the anniversary of "the shot heard around the world," as some people refer to it. The Battle of Lexington and Concord was the first military engagement of the American Revolutionary War, fought on April 19, 1775. John Parker captained the Lexington militia on that day. There is no known likeness of him however, so a bit of artistic license is involved in this statue.

A nice piece of history, and something I didn't know. My history education was really bad - something to be learned, never mind understood or thought about.
I just had to check this out further. The site where the statue is located has changed considerably.
