PFF: My Heart's Gift

Postmarked Feb. 3, 1909 (?), in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.  Addressed to Anna Rosenthal, 832 Hancock St. City (which means the same city as where the card was posted).

First about the front: there is some gold-colored embossing.  Also, that is real pink silk ribbon on the girl's dress. It's been flattened with time, and of course, for the scan.  This card most likely cost more than the typical postcard, and it is collectible today.

About the back:  the message is: "From C B Goodman  827 N. 8th answer"

A love note, written just before Valentine's Day, but with the lack of punctuation, this can be read in many ways.  An order? A request? A plea, for an answer? Postcardese: Daydreams on Old Postcard Messages understands the ambiguity.

Google Earth shows that 832 Hancock St. is one block away from I-95, the Delaware Expressway, and now hosts a non-descript building.

I'm Linking up with Beth at The Best Hearts are Crunchy for Postcard Friendship Friday, and I hope with Bev at  Pink Saturday.

Beautiful collectable card. I wonder if that was the ANSWER!

I'm with Lyneen - I think the cards was in answer to a question. I like to think that anyway. It's one of the prettiest I've seen in a long time.

I clearly didn't think of this possibility - but yes the card could be "[this is my] answer"
Hmm, we'll never know.

My interpretation:
"Anna, you...hearts collector! I thought I'm your one and only.
You have my heart under your belt.
But your fan betrays you - you already marked two more notches/trophies on it.
Answer!"

Maybe she asked someone else who something was from.

Have to admit I read that as an imperative "answer me now!" from the impetuous (and desperately in love) CB Goodman.

I love vintage post cards! I wonder what he meant "answer" hah! But then I suppose he was writing to her knowing that any number of people might read the card along the way. That is the trouble with post cards.

Welcome to Pink saturday! I am loving the mystery o not knowing exactly what the meaning of the word "answer" in this postcard means. Can be read so many ways as you meantioned. I wonder if doing a little research on who these people were (if written by adults) could give you some insight on this. Sorry, I have been working on Ancestry.com the past few weeks and all I can think of is research. :)

Welcome to Pink Saturday! That's such a pretty postcard. I've started collecting some here and there, and I always enjoy reading what the person wrote, the year it was sent, and where it was sent to. They're little pieces of history!
Happy PS!

GREAT card, but I don't see the name of the artist on the reverse. Do you know who published it?

Welcome to your first Pink Saturday, Viridian. I am so glad you decided to join us.

This is a beauty. I love the ribbon work, and I have a weakness for vintage cards.
