Sunday Stamps: Black and White

Good day, and welcome to my postcard and stamp blog.  It is a gloomy rainy day in the American Midwest.  Might as well write a blog entry.

Our theme today is black and white, and I have just the older stamp for this, from my Postcrossing days:

Two very young black and white kittens from the Netherlands.  This is an older stamp, used on a postcard to me.  So cute!

Sunday Stamps: "N"

A cold and sunny day in the American Midwest.

SeeitonaPostcard says there really aren't enough pink stamps.  Hmm, I may have a pink stamp for today.  And it follows the theme of the letter "N", our theme for this week.

Two stamps from the Netherlands, that I have shared previously, some years ago:

Sorry for the big cancel!  Stamps from when I was in Postcrossing.  My correspondent noted these were caps worn by elderly ladies or women in the "bible belt" of the Netherlands.

Visit SeeitonaPostcard for more participants.

Sunday Stamps: Postcrossing

Good day, and welcome to my stamp and postcard blog.  I am participating in Sunday stamps sponsored by SeeitonaPostcard.  The theme this week is the Letter P.

Our hostess shared a Postcrossing stamp, and I was able to find one too!  From the Netherlands:

Postcrossing is a way to send postcards to strangers all around the world, and get postcards from strangers back.  I was active for a few years and received about 1000 postcards, from many countries.  I am not active anymore - the postage costs started adding up.  I had joined to share with my children cards from around the world and teach them geography.  Well they grew up and were not as interested anymore.  I still have my albums filled with cards.

Visit SeeitonaPostcard for more entries!

Sunday Stamps II 98

A very warm end of October here in the American Midwest.

It's time for Sunday Stamps.  The theme this week is bizarre or unexplainable stamps.

The first one below, from the Netherlands, might have something to do with posting letters.

Or maybe not.  The second one below I have posted before on my blog.  It's from Lithuania.

A marble? A bead? No one knew then what it was trying to depict, and I am not sure either.

Visit SeeitonaPostcard to see who else is joining in this week!

Sunday Stamps # 196

It continues cold in the American Midwest. And maybe a hint of snow in the air!

It's Saturday night, so time for Sunday Stamps.  Our theme this week is anything you wish.

I'll start with  stamps that arrived recently on a Postcrossing postcard:

These are from the Netherlands.  My correspondent, Maud, tells me, "The stamps show bonnets from different areas in my country, still worn by elderly and or people living in "The Bible Belt"."  It's funny to me in the USA thinking of the Netherlands having a Bible Belt, and where that might be. And strange to think that in some years from now they may not be worn at all - how sad.

Please join me this week in sharing anything you wish -- maybe a recent arrival in your mailbox?

Theme next week: Furniture (sort of by suggestion)
Theme week after that: birds ( a perennial theme)

Sunday Stamps # 162

Good evening everyone, on a warmer day, where it did NOT snow!  The tips of my daffodils are showing above the mulch, but otherwise there is no green anywhere.  We will have to bide our time for Spring.

For Sunday Stamps, our theme is Letters, postcards, and the post.  I know this is a favorite of many contributors.  I have several stamps to share.  First, a sweet bear writing a letter, from Finland:

This, I believe is part of a series, and someone showed another stamp from this series a few weeks ago - I am sorry I do not remember whom.  Next up:

(sorry for the askew scan!) A beautiful landscape from Japan, but then I noticed it was from International Letter Writing Week in 2013!  A bonus.  Lastly, from the Netherlands:

It's hard to tell, but I think the little figure in this stamp is rushing to get his/her letter posted.

What do you have this week?  Perhaps a red letter box?  A stamp about stamps?  Please share.

Theme next week:  farms and farm animals.
Theme two weeks from now: buses and public transportation.

Sunday Stamps # 146

Hello, how are you?  Good I hope.  Are you here for Sunday Stamps?  Me too!  Let's get started.

Our theme this week is bo-o-o-o-ring stamps.  Dull, everyday issues. ( I think this is by suggestion.) But, maybe they will be new to someone visiting this blog this week.

First: a stamp from the USA that we used so many times over the last 5 years to pay bills and send correspondence.  And it came in to us, many times.

You could buy this in booklets or rolls of 100 stamps.  It's still available too.  It's really too bad that a symbol of American Independence becomes boring, and essentially not noticed anymore.

Here is another one:

I have been a member of Postcrossing for a long time, exchanging many postcards, including almost 180 from the Netherlands.  Many of them have this stamp on them. It is a good stamp, but boring over time.

Come and join me, if you are not too bored by this post!  Share your everyday issues.  I hope to see a Machin or two!

Theme next week: Singers.
Theme two weeks from now: unusually shaped or oversized stamps (by suggestion)

Sunday Stamps # 127

Thunderstorms tracking across the American Midwest! I can hear the rumble outside my window. Other than that, it's a quiet evening here. Time for Sunday Stamps.

This week's theme is anything you wish.  I had a small stack of cards waiting for me when I came back from vacation.  These stamps were on one of the cards, from the Netherlands. (It was a reproduction of a Toulouse Lautrec painting.)

On the left, 100 years of a stamp collecting organization (??) and on the right, an older stamp commemorating the 500 years since Christopher Columbus' historic voyage.

Our theme next week, by suggestion, is sea creatures.

Please join me this week for this open theme.  What have you been wishing to share?

Sunday Stamps #106

Here in the Midwest, the snow we had is gone, alas. And it's warmer than usual. Isn't winter supposed to be cold??

Well it is Saturday Evening and time for me to prepare my Sunday Stamps post.  It is my first week back for the semester at the University, and I am still getting used to the schedule and the students.  It has been a bit tiring.  Anyhow, time to share stamps of our theme of this week, which is:

Cartoons and cartoon-like drawings.

I know there are Simpsons stamps, and Moomin stamps, but feel free to interpret this theme broadly.  As I certainly do below.

Older stamp of children playing, on the right, plus Beatrix of the Netherlands on the left.

Here, a stamp from Germany that I interpret as saying "for the children."  I think this one is sweet.  Why not have a fish flying in the sky?

Feel free to join me this week!  Add your link below.

Theme next week: anything you wish.

P.S. Suggestions for further themes welcome!

Sunday Stamps #104

Welcome to the first Sunday Stamps of the New Year.

"Something black" or "a black stamp" was suggested a long time ago as a theme but I did not have something appropriate until recently.  It may not be the best theme for the first week of the year, but wait until next week!

For something black I have two black and white kittens, and very young kittens at that, on an older stamp from the Netherlands.  Aww.

If you have trouble finding something black, feel free to share any stamp you wish this week.

Theme next week: Beginnings. (more appropriate for the New Year!)

Postcard Friendship Friday Jan. 4

It's a Happy New Year here at chez Viridian, and for Beth at the Best Hearts are Crunchy. It's Friday and time for Postcard Friendship Friday.

I received this card not once but twice via Postcrossers in the Netherlands.  But that is OK, as I appreciate the sentiment.

I wish the best for 2013 for you too!

Sunday Stamps #94

A Saturday dinner spent with family, and after that, time for Sunday Stamps.

This week's theme: stamps depicting hobbies.

Here is a stamp that I interpreted as celebrating bird watching and butterfly watching, and it can be that.  Actually it is a stamp issued for the 100th anniversary of the KNNV, the Royal Dutch Society for Natural History.  In their words:  "The KNNV is a society which aims at active participation in and with nature: through the enjoyment of nature, through natural history studies and through nature conservation. In other words the KNNV is a society for field biology."

I am interested in seeing what other people may have dug up for this theme.  Stamp collecting is an obvious choice, but we've had that theme before. What hobbies do you have to share?  join me with your link below.

Theme next week:  Water.

Sunday Stamps # 87

It's time again for Sunday Stamps.

Today's theme: Cats, dogs, and other pets.  I wish I could have a cat as a pet, but alas, I have allergies.  And to dogs too, though not as bad.  But I can enjoy some great stamps featuring dogs:

The top stamp is from Hong Kong and shows a working dog, an English Springer spaniel.  This breed is used as sniffer dogs, for explosives and other items, and I think that is what is being shown in this stamp.

The bottom stamp is a unique stamp made by a Postcrosser, showing herself and her pet dog (looks like a German Shepherd to me).  This breed of dog is noted for its loyalty and intelligence, among other  traits.  It is also used as a sniffer dog, and for police work.

Theme next week: My themes are picked based on your suggestions, or by what stamps I happen to have on hand or receive in the mail. Suggestions welcome!  Next week:  the Post, post boxes, postal vans, stamps on stamps, or similar images.

Sunday Stamps # 71

For Sunday Stamps #71, I suggest that you share stamps that came in the mail this week (or last week, if you stopped your mail for any reason).  Daily, everyday stamps.

What I am sharing is an everyday issue of a Forever stamp from the USA.  These come in sheets and on rolls.  It is the stamp people put on the envelope for paying their bills (if they are not paying bills on-line).

Below it is a stamp I received on a Postcrossing postcard from the Netherlands.  I have seen it quite a few times, so it must be a standard issue for international postage.

Theme for next week:  Maps on stamps, a theme suggested by Helen.  I finally have one to share!!
