Sunday Stamps: Fashion

Good day, and welcome to a cool cloudy afternoon in the American Midwest.  It's Sunday, and time for Sunday Stamps.

The them today is Fashion, and I'll admit upfront that I searched the internet and landed on a stamp dealer's website.

Oscar de la Renta - see his Wikipedia page.  A USA stamp from 2017, that I do not remember ever seeing!

And another:

His fashion house is still going - see the Website.

Sunday Stamps: the color red

Good day and welcome to my blog.

It's a frosty morning in the American Midwest - our first frost.

It's time for Sunday Stamps, and the theme is the color red.  I have a new seasonal stamp from the US Postal Service to share.  The image is from their website.

This is the religious Christmas stamp released for this year.  The Madonna is pictured in red robes.  Often, she is pictured in blue, so this is a little different.

Sunday Stamps: Food (sweets)

It's a rainy morning in the American Midwest and time for Sunday Stamps.  The theme is food, and like another contributor, I am featuring sweets.  They are not good for you but are so delicious.

These are new stamps for the US Postal Service, showing iced sugar cookies in Christmas designs.  This image is from the USPS.  Every year the USPS usually releases a religious Christmas stamp and a non-religious set, as well as a Hanukah stamp.

Sunday Stamps: Birds

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  It's a cool morning in the American Midwest, and time for Sunday Stamps.

I have been traveling (2 trips in the last 2 weeks) and unable to participate but I am back again.

The theme this week is birds, and there always seems to be bird stamps around.   I have some newer US Postal Service stamps to share:

This set of stamps pictures the bald eagle from chick to adult.  This image is from the USPS.  The set was issued May 14, 2026.

Sunday Stamps: Famous People

Good day and welcome to my blog.  It's a lovely Fall morning in the American Midwest, and time for Sunday Stamps.

Our theme today is famous or accomplished people.  Although the US Postal Service has a recent stamp of George Washington, I am going to share a different stamp.

This is Fred Rogers (with King Friday), host of a well-known children's TV show in the USA.  In each episode he would greet us in his home and later go to the land of make-believe.  His was a reassuring voice for many children.  By the time we got cable TV when I was a child, I was a bit too old for this show.  I came to appreciate it later.  His was a message of kindness and love thy neighbor.

Sunday Stamps: Places of Learning

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  It is a cooler day in the American Midwest.  Could fall finally be here?

It's time for Sunday Stamps, and the theme is places of learning.

My stamp, from the USPS, is a little different.  It celebrates 150 years of the US Coast Guard Academy by featuring 2 teaching vessels on it.

The top ship is the Barque Eagle, and the bottom ship is the USCGC Bertholf.  More at this link.  I guess there is training on a classic sailing ship, and a modern cutter for the students.

Sunday Stamps: Vacation destinations

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  It's a warm muggy morning in the American Midwest, and time for Sunday Stamps.

This week's theme is vacation destinations.  For me, I immediately thought of going to the beach.  And wouldn't you know the USPS issued stamps in April of this year that fit this theme:

And the whole set:

These images are from the USPS.  Here is the link to the webpage.

No beach vacation for us this year - maybe next year.

Sunday Stamps: Geology

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  It's a cool sunny morning in the American Midwest, and it's time for Sunday Stamps.

The theme this week is geology, and for me, I'll narrow this down to mineralogy, the study of minerals.

Here are some garnets from Switzerland.  And the whole set:

I love minerals!

Sunday Stamps: Rivers

Good day and welcome to my blog.  It's a muggy morning in the American Midwest.

It's time for Sunday Stamps, and the theme is rivers.

Here is an image from the US Postal Service of a river along the Appalachian Trail.  This is part of a group of stamps that I have shared before, when the theme was waterfalls.

Have you ever hiked along a portion of the Appalachian Trail?  I grew up near the trail in Massachusetts but no, never hiked it.

Sunday Stamps: Mountains

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  It is a warm humid morning in the American Midwest, and it's time for Sunday Stamps.  The theme is mountains.

Having nothing in hand, I used Google to find an appropriate stamp, probably from an on-line seller:

A brown bear and a gorgeous mountain behind.  Large mammals need lots of territory to roam, and as the valleys get developed, the mountain habitats are like 'islands' surrounded by development.  And there are more chances of bear - human interactions, which rarely go well.

Sunday Stamps: Aircraft

Good day and welcome to my blog.  It's a cloudy morning in the American Midwest, after a night of rain and thunder and a tornado watch.

It's time for Sunday Stamps, and the theme is aviation or aircraft.

Having no stamps in hand, and older stamps on my blog have been shared three times already, I searched the web and found this sheet on the page of an etsy seller:

Face value is 32 cents and they are from 1996.  The Wright Brothers craft is there, as is my dad's favorite, the Lightning.  You may have to click on the image and expand it to see the details.

Sunday Stamps: Children's stories

Good day and welcome to my blog.  It's a cooler cloudy morning in the American Midwest, and time for Sunday Stamps.

The theme this week is children's stories, such as Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter.  I have no stamps for this so I am going to bend the theme a bit and post some stamps of children's toys.  Think of children making up their own stories.

Barbie, a toy from the USA and an icon of sorts.  This image is from the US Postal Service.  In my youth (a long time ago) Barbie was about fashion but now she has many different careers, including as an astronaut.

Sunday Stamps: Lighthouses

Good day and welcome to my blog.  It's a warm summer morning in the American Midwest, and the air is "unhealthy for sensitive groups".  This is better than 2 days ago, when it was "hazardous".

It's time for Sunday Stamps, and the theme is lighthouses.

There is a new set of stamps from the US Postal service, issued June 9 of this year, called American Icons.

One of those stamps is a lighthouse.

This image is not from the USPS but from a stamp dealer on-line.  It does not say which lighthouse this is, but I suspect it is one of those along the Atlantic seaboard.

Sunday Stamps: the Letters "X, Y & Z"

Good day, and welcome to my blog.

It's a muggy summer morning in the American Midwest, and time for Sunday Stamps.

The letters at the end of the alphabet can be hard to find stamps for.  I can do no better than repeat the Y stamp I shared last time we went through the alphabet - a yellow flower:

This is from Taiwan. A cheerful stamp!

Sunday Stamps: the Letter "W"

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  It is a cooler morning in the American Midwest - perhaps the heat dome has left us.

It's time for Sunday Stamps.  We are up to the letter W.

I have a stamp from the US Postal Service, honoring Phillis Wheatley, an early enslaved African poet.

Captured in West Africa as a child, she was taken to Boston and sold to the Wheatley family.  They educated her.  They encouraged her writing.  A book of her poems was published in London England in 1773 and brought her some fame.  The Wheatleys emancipated her soon after publication of her book.

More at her Wikipedia entry.

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  It's a cloudy morning in the American Midwest, and it's time for Sunday Stamps.

In our tour of the alphabet we are up to the letter "V".  I have a Russian stamp I have shared before:

An active volcano in the far east of Russia.  I think this came to me in my Postcrossing days.

Sunday Stamps: the Letter "U"

Hello and welcome to my blog.  It is a beautiful June day in the American Midwest.

It's time for Sunday Stamps, and this week it's the letter "U".

I have a stamp from the US Postal Service, for the Underground Railroad:

That is Harriet Tubman on the stamp.

I am reminded of fellow students in 6th grade, doing a project and presentation on the Underground Railroad.  They thought it was an actual physical railroad, sort of like a subway (not reading their sources too closely).  I had to tell them it was a network of people, transferring runaway slaves from house to house or other sanctuary.  These were known as stations.  Luckily, I did this before their oral presentation and writing their report!

Sunday Stamps: the Letter "T"

Good day, and welcome to my blog.

It's a warm humid cloudy day in the American Midwest, and it may rain later.  Now though it's time for Sunday Stamps.

We are up to the letter "T" in our tour of the alphabet.  SeeitonaPostcard has shared Tulip stamps, and I have a Tulip stamp too, from the US Postal service:

I also am sharing this Thank You stamp from the USPS:

Sunday Stamps: the Letter "R"

Good day, and welcome to my blog.

I had not prepared a R stamp, so I was at a loss for today.  I checked the USPS website, and was saved by the issuance of this set of stamps remembering the 100th anniversary of Route 66, the "Mother Road" that stretched from Chicago to Los Angeles.  This set was issued on May 5, 2026.

If you have not heard of Route 66, except in a rock song, that's OK.  It's an American thing.  From the 1930's to the 1960's many people moved west to southern California along this road.  The route still exists, but has been renumbered for most of its length.
