A Seafood store for Sepia Saturday 161

I am rejoining Sepia Saturday, hosted by Alan, after a long absence. The prompt image is of an oyster store in Raleigh, North Carolina.   It made me wonder if my old source of Chicago Daily News photos at American Memory at the Library of Congress might have something appropriate.  I found a picture of a sweet cat that way.

Fish shop worker holding a preserved fish that is as long as a man outside the Charles W. Triggs Oysters shop. (circa 1904)

Oh how lucky I am!  Somewhere in the Loop of Chicago was this fish shop, with preserved fish, a champion-sized lobster, and the ubiquitous barrels.  And my goodness, that lobster is balancing on the mounted head of a hammerhead shark????

See what other edible goodies are on offer at Sepia Saturday 161.

I am on Facebook too: just search for Viridian61. I post only when I have put up a blog post, and very little else.

What a great picture! The head almost looks like an alligator.

Thanks,

Kathy M.

Goodness, Dr Norton's hat is bigger that the cat! The lobster looks good, but I'm not keen to try the preserved fish! I once saw dried eels in a deli in Spain and thought they were walking sticks! Jo :-)

I wonder what a fish like that would taste like. It looks pretty horrible. Still, an interesting picture.

The big thing the man is holding would scare me away.

I'm glad there are just herrings and mackerel in the North Sea...

A tremendous picture. I'm glad you pointed out the hammer head shark.

I was thinking along the same lines as Kathy - it looks like a cross between a crocodile and a coelacanth. As for the hammerheard shark, I wonder if that brings in more customers or scares them away. Rather a bizarre photo.

Goodness, what IS that! I hope it wasn't an angling story as no-one would believe he caught that. I wonder if it was real.
