Today's theme: Standard Issues. A look at the everyday stamps of our countries.
This is one of the most common stamps that was used in the USA - millions must have been printed and put on penny postcards. This particular specimen came from a card sent in 1913 to Mrs. Amanda Floyd in Indiana from her sister Daisy.
Note the fine engraving on the stamp, and the wreath around Washington.

A nice Christmassy green.
Some of these stamps are so well known, that it's not until you study them that tiy realise just how lovely they are.
Makes you wonder how many of these stamps were sent that Christmas across the US.
On a stamp, as on a banknote, the most important personality (who's to decide that?) does not necessarily appear on the highest denomination.
Maybe it's intentionally put on the lowest, for popularization purposes...:)

Lovely stamps from everyone this week. I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the uniformity of defiitive stamps. Alas I seem to have missed the Sunday Stamps deadline so won't be posting any of mine this week.
