Sunday Stamps: the letter "I"

Good day and welcome to my blog.  It's a bit chilly in the American Midwest for the end of March.

It's time for Sunday Stamps, and the letter this week is "I".

I have some older stamps from the USA showing various Industrial processes:

This series of stamps was called Building a Nation.  I have shared these before, and in my old blog post I wrote:

This is a group of four stamps from a larger set.  Most of the photographs were taken by Lewis Hine, a famous photographer.  According to Wikipedia, "Lewis Wickes Hine (September 26, 1874 – November 3, 1940) was an American sociologist and photographer. Hine used his camera as a tool for social reform. His photographs were instrumental in changing the child labor laws in the United States."

Sunday Stamps: the Letter "H"

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  It's a warm morning in the American Midwest, and it's going to get warmer today, and possibly have some thunderstorms.

It's time for Sunday Stamps, and we are up to the letter "H".

Our hostess has shared a horse stamp, and so will I.  This is a USA stamp for the year of the Horse on the Chinese zodiac.

This image is from the USPS website.

I also have a Hedgehog stamp that I have shared before.

It is from Belarus.

Sunday Stamps: the Letter "G"

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  It is a warm and breezy day in the American Midwest.

It's time for Sunday Stamps.

We are up to the letter G, and I have a stamp I have shared before:

A stamp from Germany celebrating Grimm's fairy tales.  Some of those tales are pretty dark.

Sunday Stamps: the Letter "F"

Hello and welcome to my blog.

Past warm days have led to some of my bulbs sprouting.  It is cooler today, but there are warmer days ahead.

It's time for Sunday Stamps, and we are up to the letter F.  I have a stamp from the US Postal Service, issued last year:

This is a Forever stamp, worth the current first-class postage - NOT 5 cents.  It is a modern interpretation of an 1875 stamp of Benjamin Franklin - a Founding Father though not a US President.
More information on this stamp is on the USPS web page.  The image above is from their webpage.

Sunday Stamps: the letter "E"

Good day and welcome to my blog.  Warmer weather has been replaced by colder air, but Spring is coming.

In our tour of the alphabet we are up to the letter E.

A stamp issued in 2013, and shared by me before, but appropriate for today.  A stamp honoring Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation of 1863.  More is described in the Wikipedia entry.

"The Proclamation changed the legal status of more than 3.5 million enslaved African Americans in the secessionist Confederate states from enslaved to free. As soon as slaves escaped the control of their enslavers, either by fleeing to Union lines or through the advance of federal troops, they were permanently free." (From Wikipedia)

Let us not forget the past, even when it is difficult.

Sunday Stamps: the Letter "D"

Good day and welcome to my blog.

Light snow flurries today in the American Midwest, and it's time for Sunday stamps.

An easy one today:  A collection of Dahlias on stamps from the US Postal Service:

And all together:

These images are from the USPS website - I don't have these in hand.
I am looking forward to Spring.  Dahlias bloom later in the summer however.

Sunday Stamps: the letter "C"

Good day, and welcome to my blog!  It is warming up in the American Midwest.

It's Sunday morning, and time for Sunday Stamps.

We are on to the letter C.  Checking out the trusty US Postal Service website, I found this stamp commemorating Colorado statehood:

showing some of the mountains Colorado is known for.  But keep in mind eastern Colorado is vast flat plains.

In searching through stamps shared before on this blog, I found a stamp from the Cayman Islands:

Next week: the letter "D".

Sunday Stamps: the letter "B"

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  The snow is not melting in the American Midwest, as it's been pretty cold.  It is a cloudy but bright day, and it's time for Sunday Stamps.

We are up to the letter "B".  I checked out the US Postal Service website, and wouldn't you know, they have a new issue:  Bruce Lee stamps:

This image is from the USPS website.  More information is HERE.

These stamps will be available on Feb. 18, 2026.

Another stamp that fits for today is one of Barbara Bush:

Sunday Stamps; Around the alphabet again: "A"

Good day, and welcome to a cold morning in the American Midwest, although it was 6 degrees F this AM, rather than -6 degrees F so I guess that is an improvement.

It's time for Sunday Stamps.  I will not have a theme for this tour of the alphabet, unlike some contributors.  I will probably draw my stamps from the webpage of the US Postal Service or go through my stamps box again.

For the Letter A:

Some very nice Apples on a stamp to make up postage.

Sunday Stamps: the letter "Z"

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  8 inches of snow fell overnight, and it's snowing now.  The prediction is 6 more inches to fall by 6 PM today.  Yikes!  We are going nowhere, so it's best to stay in and blog about Sunday Stamps.

We are up to the letter Z in the alphabet, and we are going to do the round of the alphabet again.  I went to the website of the US Postal Service, not to find Z stamps, but to prepare with an A stamp for next week.  But I found a stamp that might do for this week:

A semi postal stamp (90 cents) raising money for Alzheimer's disease research.  More information on this stamp is on its web page

Sunday Stamps: the letter "Y"

Good day, and welcome to my blog.  It's a cold but clear day in the American Midwest, and it's time for Sunday Stamps.

We are up to the letter "Y" in the tour of the alphabet run by our host.  It can be a difficult letter to find stamps for.  Upon the suggestion of "yellow" from other contributors, I went to find a stamp featuring yellow, that I have shared before:

A lovely yellow flower from Taiwan.

The Latin name is given on the stamp (as well as the Taiwanese name), but I do not know the name in English.

Sunday Stamps: the letter "X"

Good day, and welcome to a cold cloudy day in the American Midwest.

X is a hard letter to find any words or stamps, but my colleagues have done well (check out SeeitonaPostcard).

I have an USA stamp for today though - not in hand; the image is from a stamp dealer.

Malcolm X was an American civil rights leader, active until his assassination in 1965.  His Wikipedia entry is HERE. There is a Malcolm X day, celebrated in Berkeley CA May 19 - his birthday.  I did not know this.

Sunday Stamps: the letter "W"

Good day and welcome to my blog, and Happy New Year!

It is a cloudy day in the American Midwest, I am back from family travels, and it's time for Sunday Stamps.

This week we are up to the letter "W".

Author Edith Wharton, first woman to win a Pulitzer Prize for fiction.

And a large collection of wildlife.  Purchased long ago, I like the illustrations.
