Fish shop worker holding a preserved fish that is as long as a man outside the
Charles W. Triggs Oysters shop. (circa 1904)
Oh how lucky I am! Somewhere in the Loop of Chicago was this fish shop, with preserved fish, a champion-sized lobster, and the ubiquitous barrels. And my goodness, that lobster is balancing on the mounted head of a hammerhead shark????
See what other edible goodies are on offer at Sepia Saturday 161.
I am on Facebook too: just search for Viridian61. I post only
when I have put up a blog post, and very little else.

What a great picture! The head almost looks like an alligator.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Kathy M.
Goodness, Dr Norton's hat is bigger that the cat! The lobster looks good, but I'm not keen to try the preserved fish! I once saw dried eels in a deli in Spain and thought they were walking sticks! Jo :-)
ReplyDeleteI wonder what a fish like that would taste like. It looks pretty horrible. Still, an interesting picture.
ReplyDeleteThe big thing the man is holding would scare me away.
ReplyDeleteGreat to have you back on Sepia Saturday. Looking forward to loads more Sepia posts over the coming weeks.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad there are just herrings and mackerel in the North Sea...
ReplyDeleteA tremendous picture. I'm glad you pointed out the hammer head shark.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking along the same lines as Kathy - it looks like a cross between a crocodile and a coelacanth. As for the hammerheard shark, I wonder if that brings in more customers or scares them away. Rather a bizarre photo.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness- lucky is an understatement! What a catch indeed!
ReplyDeleteGoodness, what IS that! I hope it wasn't an angling story as no-one would believe he caught that. I wonder if it was real.
