Chinese New Year began on Monday January 23, so let's celebrate with Chinese stamps, Dragon stamps, or red stamps. The top stamp looks similar to some bridge stamps shared by someone previously (Bob I think?)  This festival is also know as the Spring festival in China, and lasts for 15 days.  The coming year is the Year of the Dragon in the traditional Chinese calendar.  Red is a lucky color

Today's theme: Standard Issues. A look at the everyday stamps of our countries. This is one of the most common stamps that was used in the USA - millions must have been printed and put on penny postcards.  This particular specimen came from a card sent in 1913 to Mrs. Amanda Floyd in Indiana from her sister Daisy. This week we stop in Mainland Asia (by which I mean not including Japan, Taiwan, Philipines). This is an older stamp from for Laos that has been in my stamp box for a long time.  I don't remember how I acquired it, but I like the elephants and the overall design. Looking at the Wikipedia entry, Laos has been the Lao People's Democratic Republic since 1975, so this stamp must be older than that.

I received this card recently from a postcrosser in Canada. It is issued for Parks Canada I believe and the illustration is by Tim Nokes. It's a look that reminds me of the Ranger Naturalist cards I showed some time ago, that were reproductions of WPA posters from the 1930's. It's Spring and I think of flowers.
